Overhead Handling in Houston, TX — Free Your Floor, Move Product Anywhere

For light to heavy duty loads, overhead conveyor is an economical, efficient solution: easy to install, low maintenance, with quick delivery of stock components that increases bottom-line profitability. Lone Star Automated Systems designs, supplies, and installs monorail and power & free systems across Texas.

The Most Adaptable Conveyor on the Market

Overhead conveyor maximizes available floor space while conforming to structural contours — the track goes where your building lets it, not where a floor conveyor forces it. Once installed, overhead systems are easily modified for additional workstations, relocated equipment, increased building size, or other revisions in conveyor paths.

Its design also allows the use of smaller processing equipment — tanks, freezers, ovens — and makes serving hard-to-reach production equipment practical, because the product travels above everything else on the floor.

Overhead handling complements floor systems: hand product down to belt or live roller conveyor where processes demand it, and up out of the way everywhere else.

PAINT / PROCESS ZONE Floor stays open for equipment & traffic
Product travels above the floor — through paint, process, and storage zones — on one continuous track.

Adaptability, Productivity, Product Quality

Total Adaptability

Maximizes floor space while conforming to structural contours. Easily modified after installation for added workstations, relocated equipment, building expansions, or revised paths — and enables smaller tanks, freezers, and ovens.

Increased Productivity

Simple, reliable design with fewer moving parts means minimal maintenance and virtually eliminates downtime. Flexible chain pitch offers more product hanging point options — maximizing production while reducing conveyor length and integrated equipment size.

Improved Product Quality

Physical handling is kept to a minimum: product moves anywhere, through processes of all types, that would otherwise require individual handling by personnel at every step.

Six Overhead Configurations We Design & Install

From hand-push enclosed track to heavy-duty power & free, the standard component families below cover light through heavy loads — and every one arrives as quick-delivery stock components.

TROLLEYS RUN INSIDE THE TRACK Clean & dust-protected Hand-push → powered
Light–Medium Duty

Monorail Enclosed Track Conveyor

Mechanizes manual applications for hand-push storage and transport — then grows with you: modular standard components can be added or upgraded to a powered system. The enclosed track suits material handling, finishing, and storage-and-retrieval duty.

PENDANT PIVOTS Track below, product above — nothing drips onto the load
Clean Environments

Inverted Monorail Conveyor

Flips the geometry for clean environments: the track runs low and the load rides above on a flexible vertical pendant that pivots — keeping chain lubricants and track debris below the product instead of over it.

3" & 4" I-BEAM Heavy load capacities for work-in-process
Heavy Duty

3" & 4" I-Beam Monorail Conveyor

Trolleys ride the lower flange of a structural I-beam — the heavy load capacity workhorse for transporting and storing work-in-process through fabrication, finishing, and assembly.

POWER — chain never stops FREE — trolleys engage & release STOPPED — line keeps running
Power & Free

Side-by-Side Power & Free Conveyor

Power & free pairs a continuously running chain with a free trolley track, so individual loads can stop, accumulate, and switch routes while the system keeps moving. The side-by-side configuration puts both tracks on one level — the solution where limited overhead space is available.

POWER ABOVE FREE BELOW Heavy-duty capacity with full power & free flexibility
Heavy Power & Free

Heavy Duty Over-and-Under Conveyor

Combines power & free flexibility with a heavy-duty over-and-under configuration — powered chain above, free trolleys below — for the biggest loads that still need stopping, accumulation, and routing.

FLOOR MOUNTED — precise presentation to robots No overhead structure required • clean room compatible
Robotics & Clean Room

Floor Mounted Power & Free Conveyor

All the routing and accumulation of power & free in a floor-mounted system — ideal for robotic interfaces where loads must be presented precisely, and for clean room applications where overhead structure isn't an option.

Where Overhead Systems Work

Warehousing / Distribution

Empty Box Lines

Deliver knocked-down and erected cartons to pack stations overhead.

Order Fulfillment

Route orders between zones without consuming pick-aisle floor space.

Pick-to-Light

Present carriers to light-directed pick stations in sequence.

Trash Conveyor

Carry away corrugate and dunnage above the operation.

Manufacturing

Paint Systems

Carry parts through wash, spray, and cure on one continuous path.

Powder Coating Lines

Hang, coat, and bake with minimal handling between stages.

Production Systems

Move work-in-process between cells and buffer it overhead.

Unit Handling

Transport individual units through processes of all types.

Overhead Conveyor FAQs

What is an overhead conveyor?

A conveyor that carries product on hangers or carriers suspended from a track mounted above the work floor. For light to heavy duty loads it's an economical, efficient solution that maximizes floor space while conforming to structural contours — with easy installation, low maintenance, and quick delivery of stock components.

What is a power and free conveyor?

Power & free pairs a continuously running powered chain with a free track carrying the load trolleys. Trolleys engage and disengage from the chain, so individual loads can stop, accumulate, switch lines, or take different routes while everything else keeps moving. Configurations: side-by-side (limited headroom), heavy-duty over-and-under, and floor mounted (robotics and clean rooms).

Enclosed track vs. I-beam monorail — what's the difference?

Enclosed track runs trolleys inside a closed tubular track — clean, light-to-medium duty, modular, starting hand-push and upgradeable to powered. I-beam runs trolleys on the lower flange of a 3" or 4" beam — heavy load capacities for transporting and storing work-in-process.

Why choose overhead over floor conveyor?

Floor space and adaptability. Overhead systems are easily modified for added workstations, relocated equipment, or building expansion; fewer moving parts mean minimal maintenance and virtually no downtime; flexible chain pitch maximizes hanging points; and minimal physical handling improves product quality.

What are typical applications?

Warehousing/distribution: empty box lines, order fulfillment, pick-to-light, trash conveyor. Manufacturing: paint systems, powder coating lines, production systems, unit handling — plus enabling smaller tanks, freezers, and ovens, and serving hard-to-reach equipment.
